Capelin quotas for 2015/2016

Following research expeditions in January by the Marine Research Institute of Iceland the recommended total allowed catch in capelin for this fishing year (2015/2016) is now 173 thousand tons.

On this basis the total Icelandic quota for capelin this fishing year  is  now 100,315 tons.

On the basis of bilateral agreements Iceland  has entered into with Norway, the Faroe Islands and Greenland, the allowed capelin catches of  vessels from these countries in  Icelandic waters in the fishing year 2015/2016 have been been determined as follows:

  • Norwegian vessels have been issued a quota of 45,005 tons in the Icelandic EEZ to be caught between 20 Oct. 2015 and 22 Feb. 2016.
  • Faroese vessels have been issued a capelin quota of 8,650 tons in  Icelandic waters.
  • Greenlandic vessels have  been issues a capelin  quota of 19,030 tons in the Icelandic EEZ.
